We Promise! (Promises, Promises): 22 Years of Broken Promises
2015
with Miguel Robles-Duran

Installation with eleven printed posters
Hamburg
Commissioned by the City Curator, Hamburg

Luxury development and gentrification are rapidly altering architecture and civic space, not always for the better. In response to this pattern repeated in many cities worldwide, Rosler and the urbanist and activist Miguel Robles-Duran designed commercially printed large-scale posters and placed them in a vast construction area at the port of Hamburg, Germany, the largest in Europe. Small versions of some of the posters were also placed in Hamburg's subways and buses. The title derives from Robles-Duran's research into twenty-two years of public-private architectural development partnerships under the aegis of the European Union, which do not appear to be directed to the needs of residents.
